Open Gym – Conditioning

Hello Hawks,

Blue HawkIt’s a very exciting time of year!  Tryouts begin a week from tomorrow!! Unfortunately there will be no open Gym tomorrow (Monday, August 8th) as the floors are not quite ready so make sure you have your paperwork in and rest up for tryouts!  We will have conditioning on Wednesday only (August 10th) this week in an effort to give everyone a full weekend off before tryouts.

Regarding tryouts, we just want to remind everyone to come with their best effort and attitude (both of which will be included in evaluations).  Regardless of the outcome at this or any tryout, audition, test or evaluation of any kind, you should always walk away knowing you gave your very best attempt!

A Note from Coach McDonnell:

“While we wish we had the resources to take all players, volleyball is very well attended at Exeter and unfortunately there may be cuts.  We ask all parents to prepare their children for that possibility and let them know that giving their best effort should never be looked upon as failure.  We like to remind players that many a great player was initially cut from their high school team (Michael Jordan comes to mind).  Try hard and regret nothing!

cropped-Hawk-Ball.jpgOften times we have players come out for volleyball because they have been encouraged that it is, or they perceive it to be, the “easiest” of the fall sports.  It is my experience that those players are shocked at what is required of them when they arrive.  Tryouts will be rigorous and volleyball is a demanding sport that requires physicality, stamina and a particular set of motor skills, .  We strongly recommend players come to tryouts fit and having practiced over the summer to reduce the risk of injury and improve their chances of a successful tryout.  Good luck to all!”

Additional Information:

Up to date information can be found on this site and the official athletic site for EHS is here.

Please check to make sure all forms are filled out completely and
signed by parents and students where indicated.

Thanks and good luck to all,

Coach Mike

Hello Hawks!

Vector Group of Six Volleyball Ball Illustrations

There will be NO CONDITIONING this Friday August 5th.

Also, there is a slight possibility the Gym floors may be ready for Next Monday’s open Gym (August 8th).  Please stay tuned to the website for further details.  If it is not ready, we will not have open gym on Monday.

A Reminder to all that paperwork required for tryouts should be turned into the Athletic office by now.  PLEASE do not wait until Monday and risk not being able to tryout!

Thanks!

Hello Hawks,

hawkTryouts and Preseason begin tomorrow afternoon.  All players (Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors & Seniors) should report to the gym for registration at 2:45 tomorrow. General information can be found on the “Tryout” page above or by clicking here.   Remember all players should have turned their paperwork into the athletic office and all players must have proof of a current physical exam.

We are expecting a large turnout as usual so please be reminded of the following:

A Note from Coach McDonnell:

“While we wish we had the resources to take all players, volleyball is very popular at Exeter and unfortunately there may be cuts.  We ask all parents to prepare their daughters for that possibility and let them know that giving their best effort should never be looked upon as a failure.  We like to remind players that many a great player was initially cut from their high school team (Michael Jordan comes to mind).  Try hard and regret nothing!

Often times we have parents and players come out for volleyball because they perceive it to be the “easiest” of the fall sports.  It is my experience that those players are shocked at what is required of them when they arrive.  Tryouts will be rigorous and volleyball is a demanding sport that requires fine motor skills, physicality and stamina.  We strongly recommend players come to tryouts fit and having practiced over the summer to reduce the risk of injury and improve their chances of a successful tryout.”

Good luck to all!

Hello Hawks,

abstract player sillouttesWe had hoped the gym floors would be ready but I am informed they are not.  There will be no open gym on Monday the 11th.  We will see you Next Monday the 18th for tryouts (all information can be found here).

I will not be available on Tuesday for conditioning due to a family commitment so unless I can get Tuesday covered, the last session will be this Thursday at 9:00 am on the Football Field (Weather Permitting).  If anything changes, I will post it here.  Enjoy the last week of summer before the season begins.
