Hello Hawks!

Looking forward to seeing you all this coming Monday at the first Summer Open Gym.  The entire schedule for the summer can be found here or on the “Schedule” Tab above!  We also begin the off season conditioning program this week so the schedule starting Monday June 26 is as follows:

 

  • Monday (EHS Main Gym)
    • 4:30 – 6:00 Middle School and Incoming Freshmen
    • 6:00 – 8:00 High School (upperclassmen)
  • Wednesday (EHS Weight Room)
    • 9:00 am all players – any grade
  • Friday (EHS somewhere! Small Gym, Football field, where ever we can find space)
    • 9:00 am all players – any grade

A couple of notes:

  • Here is our 2017 Blue Hawk Brochure with information about our program.
  • If you’re new to the high school you can park in the parking lot nearest the football field and enter the gym through the double blue doors.
  • BOTH conditioning sessions are essential to continued program success and injury prevention.
  • Bring Water – Summer Sessions are hot!
  • If you have not done so already, it’s a great idea to “subscribe” to this blog by entering your email to the right where it reads “Subscribe to Blue Hawk Volleyball via Email”.  This site is solely for Blue Hawk Volleyball.  You will not receive spam or be added to any mailing lists (other than this one).  You will only receive emails when we post something to this site (about 10-15 times during the season and maybe 3-4 times in the off season).

Open Gym – Conditioning

Hello Hawks,

Blue HawkIt’s a very exciting time of year!  Tryouts begin a week from tomorrow!! Unfortunately there will be no open Gym tomorrow (Monday, August 8th) as the floors are not quite ready so make sure you have your paperwork in and rest up for tryouts!  We will have conditioning on Wednesday only (August 10th) this week in an effort to give everyone a full weekend off before tryouts.

Regarding tryouts, we just want to remind everyone to come with their best effort and attitude (both of which will be included in evaluations).  Regardless of the outcome at this or any tryout, audition, test or evaluation of any kind, you should always walk away knowing you gave your very best attempt!

A Note from Coach McDonnell:

 “While we wish we had the resources to take all players, volleyball is very well attended at Exeter and unfortunately there may be cuts.  We ask all parents to prepare their children for that possibility and let them know that giving their best effort should never be looked upon as failure.  We like to remind players that many a great player was initially cut from their high school team (Michael Jordan comes to mind).  Try hard and regret nothing!

cropped-Hawk-Ball.jpgOften times we have players come out for volleyball because they have been encouraged that it is, or they perceive it to be, the “easiest” of the fall sports.  It is my experience that those players are shocked at what is required of them when they arrive.  Tryouts will be rigorous and volleyball is a demanding sport that requires physicality, stamina and a particular set of motor skills, .  We strongly recommend players come to tryouts fit and having practiced over the summer to reduce the risk of injury and improve their chances of a successful tryout.  Good luck to all!”

Hello Hawks!

Blue-Hawk-Header-2015-954-1- take 2 Open Gym will continue tonight, (Monday 7/25).   Middle School players and Incoming freshmen will meet from 4:30 to 6:00 (please arrive 15 minutes early to set up).  High School and Alumnae will meet from 6-8 pm.

Also, conditioning will continue for all players interested  on Wednesday (7/27) and Friday(7/29) from 9am-10am at the high school, bring plenty of water to stay hydrated.  We hope to see you all this week!

Last Summer Gym

Hawks,

hawkThe most likely scenario for Monday, August 10th is that the Gym Floors will not be ready.  I will head over to the school today (Sunday) to Verify.

If we find that to be the case;

  • There will be no Middle School Session offered this week.
  • The High School Session will be held at the RIM in Hampton from 6-8 ON ONE COURT so space will be limited.

If the floors by some miracle, happen to be ready, I will post on this site later tonight.

Also, I will be traveling this week out of town so I am not able to run conditioning on Tuesday and Thursday.  It will be up to you to get your personal conditioning in before the season starts.

Gym Floors Refinished

Hello Hawks,

Blue HawkWe discovered last Thursday at conditioning that they have begun the process of refinishing the floors.  Unfortunately this means there will be NO VOLLEYBALL on Monday, August 3, at the High School.  If there are opportunities elsewhere we will post them here.

Also, Because the Gold Medal Squared Clinic is taking place next week, we are going to cancel conditioning on Tuesday and all conditioning from this point forward will be weather dependent.

Hello Hawks,

Middle School Camp was a great success!  Thanks to all who came.  We had a blast getting to know you better.  Big thanks to Coach Kate for all her help and all the Blue Hawk Girls who volunteered (Paige, Jenna, Val, Hanna, Jess, Sammie… I hope I didn’t forget anyone).

Summer Gym will continue next week as usual (Middle School from 4:30 – 6:00, Upperclassmen from 6:00 – 8:00 on Mondays).

Also, we are conditioning on Tuesdays & Thursdays at 7:30 am (meet at the gym, location to be determined based on weather and availability).

A reminder that Tryouts begin on Monday August 17th for ALL PLAYERS INCLUDING INCOMING FRESHMEN.  Tryouts are tentatively scheduled for 3:15 pm (registration at 2:45) on the first day and will continue through Wednesday or Thursday (please check the schedule for times as there will be multiple sessions taking place in the afternoon on those days).

Directly after tryouts conclude, we are in pre-season and practices for all teams begin.  The schedule will be posted soon (click here).  Remember that you need all forms completed (they can be accessed here).

Finally, if you still need a physical (and you WILL NEED to have a current physical), Access Sports is offering physical exams for a donation of $5.00 (or whatever you want to donate). Following are the dates and locations (all from 5-7 pm):

  • August 11th at Exeter Access Sports Medicine 775-7575
  • July 29th in Portsmouth
  • August 4th in Raymond
  • August 6th in Plaistow
  • August 10th in Rochester
